Hotel “ KU-BA” (Kumanovo)

The building is caught in a bad construction condition caused by the fires that took place in this building. Damages are detected completely on facade walls, window openings, the environment in which it exists. Some parts of the walls are ruined and the interior is completely destroyed.

Interventions: a complete revision of the construction system is required and whether it needs to be reinforced, a complete renovation of the glass facade of the building and the installation of new windows and windows is required; complete interior corrections are required. Certain interventions are required with regard to the arrangements around the object.

The hotel was designed by the architects of "Kozjak" company from Kumanovo, or more precisely, it was transformed from old building for pre-war trainings to complex object where the hotel parts took place, while the remaining restaurant parts, the Olympic pool and other auxiliary zoos were additionally built. The hotel was ceremoniously put into use on December 8, 1974. With a lovely environment, it had two restaurants, a modern kitchen, a leisure and recreation room for the guests with a TV, a small banquet hall and a spacious terrace with 1000 seat capacity.

Hotel Ku-Ba under the famous Proevska rock, once a favorite place for visitors from all over Macedonia, has been long since left to decay, and now under mysterious conditions it is being demolished in its own roots. Rarely familiar with the status of the building, except those who tried to climb over the recognizable spirit of the Kumanovo’s Bath and throw it into a dash of decay. Located in the village of Proevce, just 3km away from Kumanovo, the abandoned hotel hides banned and life stories clinging to the heart of the walls and the rotten interior that screams loudly in the name of the past.

From January to November 2001, many residents of the village of Matejce have settled in the Hotel Ku-Ba, which at that time was in a critical situation. Today, the Ku-Ba Hotel is completely demolished, damaged and vandalized, and in addition, it represents a space for some homeless people and for collective drug abuse.

Indoor Swimming Pool (Struga)

The building’s condition is severely damaged. The structural load of the building has been weakened, the facade is partially demolished with vegetation penetrating into the interiors, which are in a decaying phase. The edification is brought into a state of unrecognizability.

Interventions: Full check of the constructive system and load capacity of the elements, arrangement of the parcel, restoration of the facade of the building, complete reconstruction of the interior and installations.

Built in 1980, the pool used to be a place where children and young people from Struga, Ohrid and neighboring populations used to exercise water sports, particularly swimming and water polo. It was this location that was home to one of the most important Macedonian swimming teams. During that time, most records were held by the swimmers and water polo athletes from P.K. Struga. It hosted state championships and international tournaments though was also used for recreational purposes enriching the local fabric.

The pool has been closed since 2003 due to a lack of financing. It is not unreasonable to say that continued misuse of the installations has turned the place, specially the swimming pool, into a horror scene. It is located next to one of the Elementary Schools in Struga, the pool is the city’s biggest meeting point for drug use. All doors and windows are ruined, there are feces and syringes at every step, causing an unbearable spreading odor. It is a serious threat to general security. Nothing has been done to prevent access to the pool, and every day children play nearby at the playgrounds within the school yard. Many times until now, the restoration of this object has been announced, but so far it comes down to unfulfilled promises and complete indifference by the institutions.

Camp Treska (Struga)

The complex facilities are in a total abandonment and degraded environment and building condition. As the complex possesses enormous architectural qualities now overlooked due to the situation in which it is found. Large damage to facade caused by molding, damage to certain parts of the construction system, complete damage of old installations, landscape and environment found in absolute unrecognition.

The interior is in a devastated state, damage to the finishing of the walls and ceilings has occurred. The surrounding vegetation occupies the building leading to some damage to the walls. On this object the use of uralite as a material in roofing, which today is considered to be highly dangerous and harmful toxic material, is noticeable.

Interventions: complete reconstruction of facilities and constructive system, renewal of facade shaping, renovation of the interior and installations, removal and replacement of roof coverings of buildings with suitable materials that are not harmful to human health; removal of surrounding vegetation that enters the interiors of the building; landscaping of the natural surroundings and the parterre.

The auto camp was built in 1968 on the shores of Lake Ohrid, 11km from Struga and 2km from the village Radozda near the Albanian border. Was owned by the company Treska. Located on by idyllic nature, it was one of the most beautiful camp-resorts of the Republic of Macedonia. The complex consists of several facilities: two dining areas, a large terrace in one of the bungalows, cabins and trailers. The main catering facility is a restaurant equipped with two halls in which various gatherings, plays and festivities of each type were held. The smaller one is somewhat closer to the beach and serving as a cafe bar. Bungalows and camp houses are cascaded in the greenery on the slopes of the hill that rises above the beaches, and camp trailers are set a few steps from the lake shore.

The last visitors seen at the auto camp were back in 1999 and after the closing of the factory Treska in 2004, it has been completely left to deteriorate. Its current state could possibly mean a risk of contagion to the users of the nearby beaches. It’s hard not to mention that there is a large amount of waste, which is growing every year to rot with the whole complex.

Memorial House of ASNOM (Kocani)

The building is in good constructive and structural condition, with reusable interior and exterior. The edification has suffered some damage to its façade together with window damage, the interiors - deterioration of wall treatments, floors and ceilings. The surrounding area is in a state of misuse and accessibility from the exterior is difficult.

Interventions: reconstruction of the façade and windows, restoration of the parterre arrangement and recognizability of the approach to the building, complete interventions in the interior.

The Memorial House ASNOM in located in Kocani. It was built in the early eighties of the last century. According to the function and program, it should have been a space in which various institutions, companies, associations of citizens and organizations would find a shared place under the sun. It is on a hill terrain, offering a wonderful panoramic view of the city and its surroundings.

The edification has a hall of big dimensions in its center, built with the necessary standards to host stage performances.

Its function was partly brought back to life through the work of the Pioneer House, the city Library and the Music School. In this House, the National Technics Club "Nikola Tesla" also took part. Throughout the transition years, the Pioneer House, People's Tech and the Amateur Club ceased to function, the Library moved to new premises.

Today, this wide space is mostly used by the Law Faculty, the Music School and Radio Kocani. The "Ruen" Folk Ensemble also uses a sample room. The rest of the rooms have been home to various folklore, music, non-governmental and other associations and over the past years. Today, these rooms have been abandoned, ruined, offering a distasteful image and memory of the past.

Bread Factory (Kumanovo)

The object is in intermediate good structural state with certain disturbances on the outer walls. Generally speaking - the constructive and compositional object is completely contained with certain damages on its facade and complete damage to the glass window openings. The parterre is in a moderately good condition, certain minimal damage has been noted.

Interventions: it is necessary to check the construction system and whether it needs reinforcement. It is necessary to complete the renewal of the glass facade of the building and to install new windows and glass as well as revitalization of the rest of the facade. Certain interventions are required on the arrangement around the object.

It is located in the center of the city, between two buildings, the Museum of the city of Kumanovo and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, nearby the Elementary School October 11th. The factory was one of the largest bread and bakery suppliers was a well-off enterprise with a relatively stable economic position.

Repeatedly through the history of this building, the firm fell into bankruptcy in 2003, was privatized in 2004; in 2005 the company announced Bajrush Sejdiu as the owner. In 2008, factory workers strike after the BSA was arrested, in 2010 the factory was run by Strumicani, in 2011 a prison sentence was imposed for BS, whereby the factory ceases to operate and its ownership falls under the Management Agency confiscated property (owned by the Republic of Macedonia). In 2012, a fire broke out in the abandoned factory, in a bread and white pastry shop.

Today it is in abandoned and unprotected state, there is no guardian, and every passerby can freely enter. The facility is synonymous with a source of contagion and another general danger for local passers-by and residents living in the immediate vicinity.

Military Building (Bitola)

The facility is in a good constructive and structural state that can be re-used and recovered with a new concept. The glass facade of the building is damaged, the windows are broken, the ceiling finishings and the walls are in a damaged condition. The landscaping is in an abandoned state - the object is overgrown with vegetation.

Interventions: Minimal interventions in the façade, replacement of broken window openings with installation of new glass; assessment of construction and reinforcement. Interior interventions according to the new use. Interventions in the parterre arrangement and its restoration are needed.

At the military barracks in Bitola, where the military was formerly located, we encounter a considerable amount of military facilities (warehouses, messes, administrations, etc.) which the city inherited from the second half of the 20th century. When designing such facilities, higher reliability coefficients in the technical calculations of these are taken into account, which means that these objects are more sustainable and can be comfortably restored and revitalized on the basis of the already achieved structure. And in such facilities, it is heavily invested in order to any installation (water supply, sewage, telecommunication, electrical installations ...), but all these installations are already stolen.

These facilities are fully owned by the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, but the focus is turned on building new settlements and residential structures in the nearby of these ruins, which contributes to reducing the required green areas, thickening of volume structures rather than restoring and building with strategic intervention in relation to the already existing urban plan and dimensions.

Textile and Leather Factory– Knitwear ”Pelister”

The object is caught in a completely devastated state. There is massive damage to the construction system, roof damage - roof construction, damage to the facade and broken windows, completely damaged facade. The object has been covered in vegetation and is unrecognizable. The interior is completely damaged.

Interventions: complete reconstruction of structure, complete roof and roof reconstruction, complete façade rehabilitation. Landscaping of the natural environment - greenery and parterre arrangement, giving recognition to the object. During the facade renewal complete replacement of the windows. Consequently, these interventions are followed by complete interventions in the interior - renewal of the finishing operations on floors, walls and ceilings.

Factory for leather and textile, once owned by Knitwear - Pelister, today left relentlessly to rot and fall apart exposed to the atmospheric and human factors. Plot of 32 pieces, 29 are in the Republic of Macedonia, and 3 on SERVICE DOKA POPOSKI TRAJAN BITOLA DOOEL.

The parcels are divided into four sides: Telekom, Makedonska Posta, SKINNICA GODINA FROM HERAKLEA AND DUEEL SERVICE-DAKE.
